Why I'm Grateful
by Yvette Bennett
Waking up to see another day, butterflies in flight, the
morning dew resting on flowers in bloom, sunlight beaming through my window in
all of its beauty and splendor as it kisses my skin; I am thankful…
As the aroma of freshly brewed coffee takes over my senses
to the point of euphoria, and leads me helplessly to its whereabouts; I am
thankful.
Marveling at the taste of a wonderfully cooked breakfast, my
freshly brewed coffee or a tall cold glass of orange juice as it dances on my
tongue, an explosion to my palate; I am thankful.
Feeling the hot water from my shower cover my body as it cleanses
me, massaging my soul as it washes away the cares of yesterday and restores me
for this new day ahead; I am thankful.
Smiling as I hear my children laugh and play as they wait
for their school bus, dogs barking, engines revving, horns blowing; I am
thankful.
Returning home from a long day at a job that I love, am
blessed to have because it is my passion, and I make a difference; I am
thankful.
I tuck my children in for the night, kissing them on their
foreheads and as I hug them, feeling their hearts beat against mine, and for a
moment, I am ONE again with them; I am thankful.
Crawling into bed with you, feeling lucky that you are mine,
caressing your face, breathing you in, holding you, loving you, having you as
my last sight before I close my eyes; I am thankful.
For every blessing in my life, big and small, seen and
unseen; I am thankful.
For every challenge in my life, because it has made me
stronger and wiser, built my character and made me grow; I am thankful.
For every person that has crossed my path, they have been my
“teacher” in one way or another, lessons needed for this life of mine; I………….
am…………. thankful……………..
